F.A.Q.s
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TUCSON ROLLING SHUTTER AND
A NON-ROLLING SHUTTER?
When not in use, a rolling shutter rolls up into its
individual custom aluminum enclosure that complements the
exterior of a home or business. Rolling shutters roll up
out of sight. They roll up out of the elements. They’re in
place when you want them, out of sight when you don’t.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A ROLLING SOLAR SCREEN AND A
STATIONARY SCREEN?
Solar screens
provide excellent protection from the sun’s radiation, and
they enhance your beautiful views on sunny days. But on
cloudy or rainy days, you need as much outside light as
possible to lift your spirits and brighten your days. Trap heat, convection updraft?
With ordinary solar screens cloudy days can be especially
dreary inside your house; with Tucson SunFix Screens and
Tucson Solar Screens out of sight, your home can be bright
and cheerful even when the weather isn’t.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A ROLLING SHUTTER AND A SOLAR
SCREEN?
Rolling shutters
from Tucson Rolling Shutters, Inc., are made from
roll-formed aluminum filled with polyurethane foam. They
provide physical sturdiness for security, insulation for
protection from extremes of heat and cold, and
room-darkening abilities for privacy. They roll up out of
sight when not in use. They block about 7% more radiant heat than solar screens and provide security. Tucson SunFix Screens and Tucson Solar Screens are made from
PVC-coated fiberglass fabric with 70 strands of glass. This extremely durable fabric filters up to 90% of the sun’s
radiation, including 97% of harmful UV
rays, and enhance your beautiful views and preserve your
sense of spaciousness. They roll up out of sight when not
in use.
WHY DO ROLLING SHUTTERS GO ON THE OUTSIDE OF A HOME OR
BUSINES?
For the best
security and the best insulation possible, you need to stop
heat, light, cold, stormy weather, and intruders before they
get to the glass of your windows.
WHAT IS THE USEFUL LIFE OF A ROLLING SHUTTER OR SOLAR SCREEN
FROM TUCSON ROLLING SHUTTERS, INC.?
Products from
Tucson Rolling Shutters, Inc. come with a 5-year warranty
that includes parts and labor, but they generally last far
longer than that. Most of the rolling shutters and solar
screens we have installed over the past 25 years are still
operational. With minimal care and proper maintenance, you
should easily expect a 15- to 20-year useful life from your
shutters or solar screens in most applications.
HOW DURABLE IS A ROLLING SHUTTER OR SOLAR SCREEN?
Rolling shutters
and solar screens from Tucson Rolling Shutters, Inc., are
made from the best materials available. They are built to
stand up to the rigors of the elements for years of
trouble-free operation. Our hurricane-grade shutter is Dade
Co., Florida, approved. All of our products come with our
exclusive 5-year warranty that includes parts and labor.
After that period, they should continue to give you years of
trouble-free service. Our shutters are made from aluminum
slats filled with polyurethane foam. Our solar screens are
made from PVC-coated fiberglass fabric[, with an 8-year
warranty against fading (most colors)]. All of our housing
and guide rails are made from powder-coated aluminum.
HOW MUCH ENERGY DO ROLLING SHUTTERS AND SOLAR SCREENS SAVE?
Rolling shutters
made with materials such as ours have been shown to save up
to 30% on energy costs for home heating and cooling. Solar
screens made with materials such as ours have been shown to
save up to [25-30% on home cooling costs][60% on your home’s
cooling load]. [All save on heating.]
DO I NEED ROLLING SHUTTERS, SOLAR SCREENS, OR BOTH?
If you need
security, insulation from the heat, and superior protection
from the cold, then rolling shutters are your solution. If
you need protection from the sun’s rays but want to retain
your beautiful views and sense of openness, then solar
screens are the answer. [[vapor barrier la cold?]] Many
homes benefit from a combination of Tucson Rolling Shutters,
Tucson SunFix Screens, Tucson Solar Screens, and Tucson
Interiors. They can even be installed in combinations on a
single opening.
WHY IS TUCSON ROLLING SHUTTERS LOCATED IN TUCSON?
Tucson Rolling Shutters, Inc., is a family-owned
business. Tucson is our home. Tucson rocks! Tucson
rolls! So do we.
HOW DO I
CARE FOR MY ROLLING SHUTTERS?
Rolling shutters
need very little maintenance. Close them [to the vented
position] and use a hose to wash down the slats with water
when they get dirty. They can also be wiped down with 409ä
if they become heavily soiled with greasy dirt [grime].
HOW DO I CARE
FOR MY SOLAR SCREENS?
Dirt can be hosed
off of solar screens when they are lowered. Alternatively,
you can wipe them down with a damp cloth. [mild soap and
water?]Solar screens should not be lowered in windy
conditions. SunFix screens should not be raised in windy
conditions, either.
WHY ARE TUCSON ROLLING SHUTTERS NOT [MADE CHEAPLY]
[INEXPENSIVE]?
We could make our
shutters and solar screens out of inexpensive materials, but
that is inconsistent with our philosophy. At Tucson Rolling
Shutters, Inc., we build things that work, and we build them
to last. We build them the best and back them the best.
I’M PURCHASING AN OLDER HOME. CAN I BUILD ROLLING SHUTTERS
AND SOLAR SCREENS INTO MY MORTGAGE?
In most
cases, yes. Our products are a fixture and add value to
your home, but ask your broker to be sure.
I’M PLANNING TO BUILD A NEW HOME. WHEN SHOULD I CALL TUCSON
ROLLING SHUTTERS?
Right away! When
designing a new home, it’s never too early to make the minor
modifications necessary to build rolling shutters and solar
screens into the construction plans. But it can be too
late.
HOW
AND WHERE DID ROLLING SHUTTERS ORIGINATE?
The wood-and-steel
ancestors of modern rolling shutters originated in Europe in
the early 1900’s. They were bulky and clumsy, but they did
the job. Today’s rolling shutters are lighter, more
efficient, more compact, and they come in a variety of
colors to compliment building designs.
